140 Tamilnadu fishermen to return home from Sri Lanka prison
The 140 fishermen released from Srilankan prisons will return home today. Tamilnadu is involved in finding a permanent solution to the fishermen problem.
The Sri Lankan Navy had arrested the 177 fishermen since January 30, after the representatives of Tamil Nadu fishermen and their Sri Lankan counterparts held the first round of talks in Chennai on January 27 to find a solution to the dispute over fishing.
After it is resolved to hold the second round of talks in Colombo, the Lankan navy had resorted to arresting the fishermen and continued the arrest till the first week of this month. Now 116 fishermen and their 26 steam boats belonging to several parts of India are going to be released from Jaffna.
Other 24 fishermen and 5 boats are brought to Rameswaram to be released. Fishermen to be taken to Karaikal port included from Rameswaram, Pudukottai, Nagapattinam Fisheries department sources said.
