21 dead in Chinese coal mine accident

Reuters: A coal mine accident in eastern China killed 21 workers, as rescue operations drew to a close on Monday (October 29), state media reported.

A rock burst on October 20, destroying part of a water drainage tunnel in the mine, initially killing two and trapping 20 workers.

The progress of rescue teams has been slow due to difficulty in clearing debris to get to the trapped workers. The mine is owned by Shandong Energy Group Co Ltd and located in the province’s Yuncheng County.
