CEB states no decision on increasing electricity rates

The CEB trade unions warn that the electricity rates are likely to be increased following the increase in fuel prices.

The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy stated that a final decision has not yet been taken regarding the increase.

Meanwhile, President of Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association, Gemunu Wijerathna said that a decision on the percentage of the intended increase of bus fares would be decided on at a special meeting this afternoon.

Deputy Minister of Transport, Ashok Abeysinghe said that Cabinet approval for such a fare hike is needed.

In addition, the chairman of the All Ceylon School Transport Service Union, Malsri de Silva stated that school van fees should also be increased.
