Elections Commission to amend postal voting laws
The National Elections Commission has decided to amend the laws surrounding postal voting.
Legal Director of the Commission Nimal Punchihewa stated that a proposal has been included to provide those engaged in essential services with the right to cast a postal vote. This is set to include Private Sector Health workers, Media personnel and those involved in other essential services.
Among the proposals is one to set up a second polling center for such individuals, so that they may cast their vote a week prior to the date of the elections. Punchihewa stated that amendments to the postal voting regulations will be forwarded to the Secretary to the President.
