Govt. Analyst begins investigations into Ranjan’s recordings

The Government Analyst’s Department has commenced investigations from today (13) into the controversial telephone conversations of MP Ranjan Ramanayake, which has been released to the public domain.

The Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court ordered the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) to hand over the recorded telephone conversations and tapes to the Government Analyst’s Department and submit the report of the investigations to the court.

The Colombo Crimes Division has already commenced investigations into the recordings of mobile phone calls of MP Ranjan Ramanayake.

A number of controversial voices had been released to the media and complaints regarding the release have been lodged with the police, the Judicial Service Commission and the National Police Commission.

However, police had denied that it released the controversial tapes to the media after they took the CDs into custody.

According to the investigations carried out thus far, court has issued an order banning the overseas travel of former Director of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), SSP Shani Abeysekara whose voice is alleged to be contained in several phone recordings with MP Ramanayeke, discussing matters pertaining to national security etc.
