Hamilton man charged after allegedly using several aliases to sexually harass woman online
A man who allegedly used 11 different names to harass a woman online with demands for sexual acts has been arrested and charged.
In March of this year, police say a woman entered into an online relationship with a man she believed was named Tim James. The relationship started out consensually, with her providing nude photographs upon his request, but when he began to demand sexual performances in front of a webcam, she became uncomfortable.
Police say that when the woman expressed her trepidation, the man threatened to use her nude photographs against her, saying he would share them with her family and friends if she did not comply.
The woman allegedly went along with his requests until the demands became so extreme that she decided to report the incident to the police.
Police in 11 Division’s Major Crime Unit executed search warrants at residences in Hamilton and Oakville last Friday and arrested Brandin Basso, 25, of Hamilton.
He has been charged with extortion and publishing intimate images without consent.
Basso allegedly used multiple aliases to harass the victim, including Smith Jones, John_Turner, Mikejames123456, Johnybravo1029384756, and Carlos. He also used a computer-generated phone number to text her, police say.
