Hamilton thanks fans following fifth F1 world title

Lewis Hamilton took to social media to thank his fans for their continued support after the Briton secured a fifth F1 world title on Sunday (October 28).

The Mercedes driver joined the late Argentine great Juan Manuel Fangio and Michael Schumacher as the only men to win at least five titles after finishing fourth in Sunday’s Mexican Grand Prix.

More people have walked on the moon than have won five crowns in a championship that started in 1950. Only Schumacher has won more than the man who could one day surpass even the German.

Hamilton’s post included some inspirational words of encouragement for his fans as well as suggesting his sole focus now is on clinching the constructor’s championship title for Mercedes, who go into the penultimate race of the season in Brazil with a 55 point lead over nearest rivals Ferrari.
