Mixed power generation plan before Cabinet
The mixed power generation plan to meet the Ceylon Electricity Board’s long-term power generation requirements will be submitted to the Cabinet next week, sources say.
It includes coal power plants as well.
A high-level discussion with the participation of the President Maithripala Sirisena, Ministers Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, heads of Public Utilities Commission, CEB union representatives and officials was held to discuss it.
It was decided at this meeting to activate a mixed power generation plan.
The Secretary to President Austin Fernando has submitted it to the PUCSL for approval.
Earlier, there was a disagreement between the PUCSL and CEB engineers over the plan, as the PUCSL did not agree with having coal plans in the mix.
We contacted CEB Engineers’ Union to get their views on this.
Its President Engineer Saumya Kumarawadu said if the PUCSL continue to delay the power generation plan, they will launch a strike from Tuesday (May 08).
