Security of Mirihana detention centre to be strengthened
The security of the Mirihana detention center, where foreigners remaining in the country through illegal means are kept is to be further strengthened.
The Department of Immigration and Emigration states that officers of the Civil Security Forces have been deployed for the purpose. The decision was taken upon advice given out by the Defence Secretary.
Issues concerning security emerged following the incident where a group of detainees had fled the detention center. The department further states that the operation to arrest the detainees who escaped will be jointly conducted with the Police. The number of detainees remaining in the center as of now exceeds 90.
