Two prominent Human Rights Activists detained in Kilinochchi
Leading human rights activist, Ruki Fernando had said that he and Rev. Father Praveen had been detained at the Killnochchi police station. It is believed that this is also related to recent arrest of mother and daughter.
Both people were subjected to investigations by a specially appointed unit of the police at a separate location in Killinochchi. If they are not released within 24 hours, it would mean that they are detained.
A lawyer S.Rathnavel who spoke at Killinochchi informed that because they are invetigated by Criminial Investigation Agency, it is not possible to establish contacts with them. If they are arrested under Terrorism related charges, they have to be in prison for the minimum period of 3 months. Because many related details have not been realeased so far, no action can be undertaken to release or help them, Human Ownership Attorney Ratnavel further said about the case.
